Along with the Hyundai Styx (Hyundai QXi), the 2019 Hyundai Grand i10 is taking baby steps toward the market. IAB reader Sarthak Shewale spotted the new generation hatchback undergoing road testing in Pune yesterday.
The Hyundai i10 grew considerably moving to its second generation in 2013, since when it comes in the long-wheelbase Hyundai Grand i10 for India and emerging countries. The third generation may not vary in size from its predecessor, but better proportions could make the cabin more spacious.
The next-gen Hyundai Grand i10 will have a more aggressive front-end with swept-back headlamps and a prominent Cascading grille covering most of the nose. On the sides, the redesigned, curvaceous greenhouse will enhance the car's design expression. At the rear, the tail lamps sport a new look, and unlike the drastic mid-cycle action of the i20, the license plate indentation continues residing lower.
Hyundai is generous with equipment even in its entry-level models, and so, expect all essential features for a car its class on board, such as automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, power mirrors, rear AC vents, passive keyless entry and engine start-stop button.
On the safety front, speed alert system, driver and co-driver SBR, manual override for central locking system and driver airbag are going to become mandatory from next year. Hyundai will comply with the updated safety norms by offering these features. However, do note that dual-front airbags and driver SBR, as well as ABS with EBD, are already standard in the car.
The next-gen Hyundai i10 will likely ride on an updated version of the current model’s platform that offers more strength and rigidity. Under the hood, it may have a BSVI-compliant version of the 1.2-litre Kappa four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a standard 5-speed manual transmission or the optional 5-speed Smart Auto automated manual transmission. The changes required for making the 1.2-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine BSVI compliant may bump the costs significantly, and so, Hyundai may be in two minds about a diesel variant.
