To hold its leadership position in the market, Maruti Suzuki will continue rolling out products in new segments, as per a new report from PTI. The company won’t ignore any segment in its product offensive.

The Maruti Future-S Concept will evolve into a Renault Kwid 1.0 rival (codename: Maruti Y1K) in 2019.

Responding to a query if Maruti Suzuki would focus more on SUVs, R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director (Sales & Marketing), Maruti Suzuki, said: “Our intent is that we will provide car for every pocket for every lifestyle and for every aspiration and we will also keep focus on the premiumisation in terms of the variants which we are giving.”

Maruti Suzuki has a wide collection of models as basic and compact as the Maruti Alto to as premium and large as the Maruti S-Cross. Still, segments which have a huge potential don't feature Maruti vehicles, and the company will tap these opportunities in the future.

There’s scope for a Renault Kwid rivalling SUV-styled hatchback at the lower end of the line-up. Recent reports say that a new model codenamed Maruti Y1K, the production version of the Maruti Future-S Concept, will arrive in 2019. This model could revive the Maruti Zen nameplate. Above the Maruti S-Cross, there’s room for a C-SUV like the Jeep Compass as well as a 7-seat version of the same. Last year, a report said that a Mahindra XUV500 challenger is scheduled to enter production in 2020.

With Maruti Suzuki’s new alliance with Toyota, possibilities are limitless. There’s already speak of a Maruti Suzuki-branded Toyota Corolla Altis. Then there’s possibility of TNGA-based models, a move that would help Maruti Suzuki to launch premium segments easily and Toyota to achieve high economies of scale. The companies have not spoken about sharing the TNGA, and the scope of the partnership is presently limited to electric vehicles and cross-badging existing vehicles.
