25% of Datsun redi-GO demand is for its AMT variant - Report

The Datsun redi-GO is available with an automated manual transmission (AMT) paired with the 1.0 L engine. It was introduced earlier this year in January. According to a new report from Digit, Datsun redi-GO AMT accounts for 25% of the total sales.

The Datsun redi-GO was launched with a 5-speed manual transmission and 0.8 L engine in July 2016. This was followed by the launch of the redi-GO 1.0 in July 2017. In January 2018, the Datsun redi-GO AMT (Datsun redi-GO Smart Drive) with a 5-speed automated manual transmission followed. Speaking to the tech website recently, Jerome Saigot, MD, Nissan Motor India, said:

Currently, Datsun redi-GO 1L AMT contributes approximately 25% to the overall sales of the Datsun redi-GO model.

Mr. Saigot foresees a healthy demand for AMT variants in this segment.

The Datsun redi-GO is available with two engines: 0.8L i-SAT and 1.0L i-SAT. Both are three-cylinder petrol engines. The 0.8L unit produces 40 kW (54 PS) at 5,678 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 4,386 Nm of torque. The 1.0L unit develops 50 kW (68 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 91 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. The Datsun redi-GO AMT is available with only the bigger engine of the two. The AMT variant features a creep function called ‘Rush Hour Mode’, which provides an optimum crushing speed of 5-6 km/h for an effortless drive in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It has a fuel economy rating of 23 km/l.

While the Datsun redi-GO is available in D, A, T, T(O) and S grades, the Datsun redi-GO AMT is available in only T(O) and S grades. Noteworthy features include chrome accent frame on the front grille, daytime running lamps (S grade-only), full wheel covers, silver finish on the steering wheel, AC vents and interior door handles, remote tailgate and fuel lid opener, gearshift display, audio system with Bluetooth connectivity and driver airbag (S-grade only).

The Datsun redi-GO AMT is priced at INR 3,96,144 (ex-showroom Delhi) in the T(O) grade and at INR 4,05,868 (ex-showroom Delhi) in the S grade. Silver, Grey, Ruby, Lime, and White are the available exterior colour choices.
