Mahindra is working on a small SUV codenamed ‘Mahindra S201’ in India. As the SUV's local testing continues, a new batch of its spy shots has surfaced online, courtesy Rushlane reader Laxman.
The Mahindra S201 is underpinned by the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform. Mahindra is reportedly working on two versions of this model, one having a sub-4 metre body to rival the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon and the other with a bigger body that accommodates extra seats at the back. The test mule in the spy shots is the 5-seat, sub-4 metre version which arrives first.
Mahindra will offer the Mahindra S201 with a 1.2-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This will apply to both versions. The latter may not have any direct competition, but Mahindra is expected to position it as a premium SUV competing with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Renault Captur.
