Based on the leaked images, IAB's automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has generated renderings of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny in multiple colours. The global premiere of the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny will take place at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 25.
The 2018 Suzuki Jimny has been rendered in its 3-door hard top form. The design of the exterior follows a neo retro theme infusing a classic boxy SUV shape with modern touches. It seems to have been inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class as well as the Ford Bronco Concept from 2004. The front features circular headlamps accompanied by circular turn indicators. Like the current model, the new one too gets a 5-slat grille.
The new Jimny has strong utilitarian design details. For instance, it features a black front bumper with heavy black body cladding around the wheel arches. The bumper houses circular fog lamps and a silver finish skid plate. Adding to the retro design details is a clamshell bonnet. The front window bears a small kink near the ORVM. The rendering adds the third generation Jimny's 15-inch grey alloy wheels.
Aside from the front, the leaked images also revealed the side and rear angles of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny. Keeping in line with the neo retro design approach, the tail gate holds the spare wheel while the bumper houses the tail lights.
A ladder frame chassis form the basis of the new Jimny. It could employ Suzuki's 1.0 Boosterjet or 1.2 L Dualjet engines when it goes on sale in Europe. Suzuki will offer the Jimny with their AllGrip 4x4 setup. As evident from the leaked image of the interior, there will be an automatic transmission option to choose from.
Certain media reports indicate Suzuki will leverage their new production facility in Gujarat for the production of the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny. It could even be launched in India as the new Gypsy for sale in the civilian market.
