Expected to premiere at 2017 NAIAS.
Seen here are a couple of prototypes of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 - one gets the huge rear wing which made headlines last week while the other prototype does with a more subtle spoiler. The video was shot by our reader Mycheal Barnaby in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
According to reports, the 2018 Corvette ZR1 will have its debut at the 2017 NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show) in January of 2017, and will be the last rendition on the current C7 Corvette. GM is preparing the next-generation C8 Corvette which is reported to debut in early-2018 ahead of a sales start in early-2019. The C8 Corvette, codenamed 'Emperor' will see the iconic sports car with a mid-mounted engine, a first on the Corvette.
Coming back to the C7 Corvette-based ZR1, reports state that it will produce 520 kW (697 hp) from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine. This engine develops a maximum of 485 kW (650 hp) currently in the Z06 variant. Reports also state that the 2018 Corvette ZR1 will ditch the Z06's 10-speed automatic transmission for a 6-speed manual.
In earlier instances, the test mules were seen accompanied by the Jaguar F-Type SVR which is priced from USD 125,950. The 'Vette Z06 costs from USD 79,400, whereas the previous generation Corvette ZR1 costed over USD 120,000.
