Expected in showrooms around Diwali.

Motoroids has acquired spy shots of a lower variant of the Tata Nexon on test, which reveal the exterior and interior. Thus far, we have chanced upon spy shots of the top-end version, so it is finally good to analyse a cheaper variant. The two official model presentations of the Tata Nexon, at the Auto Expo 2016 and the Geneva Motor Show 2017, have also been with the highest specification.

The test mule could be based on a variant that is a step above the base, like the Hexa XM above Hexa XE (base).

It doesn't seem to be the base variant of the Nexon, as the report states, as it gets rotary drive modes selector, a dual tone dashboard, chrome trim around the gear, gloss trim beside the centre console, shark fin antenna and a rear wiper. The variant it's based on could be a step above the base variant, like the Hexa XM above the Hexa XE (base).

The test mule sports steel rims and lacks the floating touchscreen infotainment, instead featuring a slot above the aircon vents for probably a 2-DIN audio system. The Nexon could also feature dual airbags and ABS as standard across the range. It measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,811 mm in width and 1,607 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,498 mm and a ground clearance of 200 mm.

As for the powertrain, Tata Motors has only confirmed that the diesel variant will pack an all-new in-house developed 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, which we estimate will be capable of averaging around 22 km/L fuel mileage. The petrol variant is rumoured to pack a turbocharged version of the 1.2L Revotron engine.

The Tata Nexon will touch down as Ford gears up to begin sales the refreshed Ford EcoSport.
