Hyundai Eon could be a victim of the BSVI emission norms in 2020 – Report

Reports suggest that the 800cc variant will be discontinued.
Autocar India reports that the entry-level Hyundai Eon 0.8L variant will be discontinued due to the BSVI emission norms, which will come into effect from April 2020.
The reason for its reported discontinuation is attributed to the high costs involved in upgrading the motor to meet the emission norms, which doesn’t necessarily make business sense in the A-segment, and for a car that was introduced in 2011. Also, the Eon will soon be ready for a jump to the next generation around the same time and is reported to be replaced by an all-new ‘Santro’.
Also on sale is a more powerful 1.0L variant of the Hyundai Eon, but this model is available in one variant only (Magna O) and dealerships hardly have stocks, which are signs that it is not in demand in India. The 1.0L motor produces 69 hp and 9.6 kg.m of peak torque, while the 0.8L engine belts out 56 hp and 7.6 kg.m of torque. Both are paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and are capable of averaging 21.1 km/L (0.8L) and 20.3 km/L (1.0L).
Prices for the Hyundai Eon range between INR 3.32 Lakhs – INR 4.60 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The Eon rivals the Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto and Datsun redi-GO in the market.
