Expected to launch in India next fiscal year.
A report on Iwanbanaran states that the 2017 Yamaha R15 v3.0 could get a slightly larger diameter piston, one of the several minor tweaks Yamaha engineers will carry out on the next generation model.
The current Yamaha R15 v2.0 uses a piston of bore (diameter) 57 mm and stroke 58.7 mm. According to the report, the R15 v3.0 will have its bore increased to 57.4 mm. As mentioned earlier, Yamaha's engineers are focussing on fine-tuning the R15 package with every update, rather than introducing revolutionary updates that may alter the character of the motorcycle.
Hence, expect the 2017 R15 v3.0 to develop power and torque in the whereabouts of 17 PS and 15 Nm of torque, like the current model, while the transmission will continue to be a 6-speed unit.
In an interview this month, Mr. Yasuo Ishihara, Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Research & Development India, said that the Yamaha R15 v3.0 will "become better in its next iteration". The executive hinted that in terms of performance and safety, the R15 v3.0 will be a step-up from the current generation model.

When launched in India next fiscal year, the 2017 Yamaha R15 v3.0 would also sport ABS and CBS as part of the standard equipment, owing to new regulations in India mandating these safety features on motorcycles displacing in excess of 125 cc. The current model costs INR 1.18 lakhs, ex-Showroom, New Delhi and the R15 v3.0 should be priced similarly.
