The motorcycle is ideal for those who want to graduate from a 600cc bike.

The design of the 2017 Yamaha MT-09 is a major departure from the previous generation bike; which was launched at the India Auto Expo in 2016. The brand stopped selling the previous generation bike as it was not BS 4 compliant. Yamaha has developed the 2017 version on the concept of "multi-performance neo-roadster", and has design cues borrowed from the bigger brother, the MT-10.

The output figures are the same as the previous generation model. The engine works in tandem with a 6-speed transmission with assist and slipper clutch. A switchable two-mode traction control and a Quick Shift System are standard.
