The sources have also revealed that apart from the aforementioned motorcycle, the company will launch a bike with an engine capacity of around 300 – 400 cc in 2020. The bike will be based on an all-new platform, and has the codename- 02R. Yamaha’s 150cc offerings such as the R15, Fazer and FZ models will also get ABS variants.
Commenting on the Japanese brand’s future plans, Hiroyuki Yanagi, global president of Yamaha, told ET:
It is the world’s largest market and growing, and we want to have an aggressive plan for India. We don’t have a major presence in the mass market. Our plan is to focus on high-end segments and to create new sub-segments. We are going to be introducing some big-engine bikes soon and India will work as an export centre.
