Will continue to be made at the AvtoVAZ plant in Russia.
Carobka has spyshots of the next generation Chevrolet Niva compact SUV, which is scheduled to launch in Russia next year. The country's economic downturn not withstanding, GM will go ahead with the launch of the new Niva in 2016.
As can be seen from the spyshots, the test mule looks very similar to the concept Niva which was revealed at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show. It is easy to notice that the Niva will have an overall length in the region of 4 meters, thus pitting it against the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
At the time of its unveiling, Chevrolet announced that the Niva will be powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 30 percent more torque than the current model. Local media reports state that the Peugeot-sourced engine will develop around 135 bhp, and will come paired to a 5-speed manual transmission with 4WD and a locking differential. Production of the new Niva will continue to take place at the AvtoVAZ plant Russia.
Spyshots of the interior show a production-ready dashboard with a 3-spoke steering wheel, a manual gearbox, manual, rotary controls for the AC, a 2-DIN music system, and silver accents for the AC vents armrests.
