The 2016 Toyota Hilux pickup truck, which will spawn the next gen Toyota Fortuner, was caught testing in Argentina by Autoblog.com.ar's reader, Claudio A. Devincenti.
From the front fascia till the B-Pillar, the current gen Hilux and the Fortuner adopt the same design and this arrangement would be carried forward to the next iterations as well. The camouflaged test mule gives away the couple's facade which has new visual elements but retain the overall identity. Shoeb, our design expert's digital rendering of the next gen Fortuner provides an idea of how the vehicle would look without any camouflage.
The revised front grille sports two prominent horizontal slats which are likely to get the chrome treatment, and the headlamps resort to a more angular shape. The secondary airdam and foglamp enclosures are mounted higher in the bumper. A subtly reprofiled hood rounds off the changes to the front fascias of the 2016 Fortuner and the Hilux.
Based on the customer feedback, the pair would continue to be based on the ladder-frame chassis rather than moving to a monocoque, in order to maintain a rugged appeal. Improved versions of the current powertrains are expected to pull the SUV and the pickup.
The next gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to arrive in India in 2016 and till then, Toyota Kirloskar Motor would keep the audience occupied by introducing new variants of the best selling SUV. A new entry level variant with the Innova's 2.5-litre diesel engine and a top end variant with the 3.0-litre diesel paired to an AT are in the cards.
