The 2016 Toyota Fortuner has been spotted testing once again in Thailand ahead of its market launch in select Asian markets next year.
The next gen SUV adopts a new ladder frame chassis which is expected to make it lighter than the current model. Toyota didn't switch to monocoque construction because the Fortuner's rugged character is appreciated by customers and the platform will also underpin the next gen Hilux pickup. Expect a new family of engines under the hood.
Though fully camouflaged, the test mules give a fair idea about new design philosophy which is different from that of the current car. The overall design is sharper with new front and rear fascias and the SUV is characterized by a modern but equally imposing silhouette. The interior design also would be completely revamped.
The next gen Toyota Fortuner is expected to launch in India in 2016 and till then, Toyota Kirloskar Motor will attempt to maintain the interest in the product by introducing new variants. A 2.5-litre entry level variant and a top-end variant with a 3.0-litre engine, automatic gearbox and 4WD are reported to launch soon.
The Toyota Fortuner will be pitted against the next gen Ford Endeavour which will also be ready next year.
