Expected to be revealed later this year.
Honda today confirmed that the next generation 2016 Honda Civic will be introduced with a new platform, and downsized turbo engine. The statement was part of Honda Motor Co.'s new president & CEO, Takahiro Hachigo's speech.
This bit of news essentially confirms the all-new 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo four-cylinder direct-injected engine for the new Civic, which is expected to launch in the U.S.A. towards the end of this year. This engine, develops 150 PS at 5,500 rpm and 203 Nm of torque between 1,600-5,000 rpm on the newly-launched Honda Jade RS in Japan. It comes paired to a CVT with 7-stepped ratios.
Mr. Takahiro Hachigo also confirmed that the next generation Civic 5-door (hatchback) will be supplied from Europe to other regions in the world. The Civic hatchback has been confirmed for the United States market as well.
Spyshots of the new Civic have shown it to ditch the split dashboard layout, and opt for a more conventional design. The exterior of the sedan is expected to draw heavy influence from the Civic concept shown at this year's New York Auto Show.
