Expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015) later this year.
After having revealed itself last month by way of spyshots, the 2016 BMW 7 Series has been spotted testing again, this time on a German motorway, pictures of which have been published by Auto Plus.
Based on the new 35up platform, the car is expected to weigh less, by up to 170 kg. But it will be feature-laden with wireless charging, a touchscreen-based iDrive system, a Bower & Wilkins audio system, etc. It will also be the second production vehicle to sport laser headlamps in the BMW lineup, with the first being the i8 hybrid sports car, due for an Indian launch this month.
Engine options will include the current inline-6 and V8 engines, while smaller 2-litre, 4-cylinder units could make it to the base variants. The 6.6-litre V12 is being reported to be axed due to emissions incompatibility.
An earlier report suggests that BMW could even look at offering a third wheelbase option, apart from the regular and LWB variants. This could go on to compete against the recently launched Mercedes Maybach S Class.
