Will go on sale in H2 2016.
After the Audi Q2, Audi's next big introduction this year is going to be second generation Audi Q5. Ahead of its mid-2016 introduction, the new generation Audi Q5 is being tested in Europe, Africa, the Americas and many regions globally in the final stages of its R&D. In the latest, the 2016 Audi Q5, which will be launched as 2017 Audi Q5 in North America, has been spied testing in New York, courtesy Auto Plus.
As seen with the new generation Audi Q7 and Audi A4, the second generation Audi Q5 will see an evolutionary redesign. Visual cues will be borrowed from both these models and near-production renderings have already given a good idea of that. What will be a really major change for the next-gen Audi Q5 will be its platform.
The all-new Q5 will share the second generation Modular Longitudinal Matrix platform, commonly referred to as the 'MLB evo' platform, with the all-new A4. The MLB evo platform's strengths include multi-material bodyshell designs, powertrain modularity and flexible architecture for operation and display, infotainment and driver assistance systems.
The next-gen Audi Q5 should be offered globally with with four- and six-cylinder TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines with displacements ranging from 1.4-litre to 3.0-litre. Transmission choices will likely include 6-speed manual, 7-speed S tronic and 8-speed tiptronic, with the power being sent through the quattro all-wheel drive system.
The next-gen Audi Q5 will feature all signature elements of the new generation Audi models like Matrix LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators, Audi virtual cockpit fully digital instrument cluster and the MMI (Multi Media Interface) infotainment system with MMI touch control.
The next-gen Audi Q5 will be built in Mexico and go on sale in H2 2016.
