Following the saloon and estate version of the fifth generation Audi A4's introduction last year, the next body style will be the 2-door coupe – the 2016 Audi A5. According to a report from Auto Bild, the second generation Audi A5 will be introduced in May and go on sale in mid-September this year. Like with the Audi A4, the new generation Audi A5 will likely be revealed along with its S performance variant. The second generation Audi A5 Sportback will be introduced in Fall this year.
Based on the Volkswagen Group's MLB-Evo platform, the 2016 Audi A5 coupe will be around 100 kg lighter than the model it replaces. The all-new A4 is up to 120 kg lighter than the model it replaces. Among other changes similar to the 2016 A4, could be increased length, width and wheelbase. The 2016 A5 coupe will likely be offered with the same TFSI petrol and TDI diesel engines from the 2016 A4, with displacements up to 3.0-litre and outputs up to 272 hp.
These engines will be married to 6-speed manual/7-speed S tronic/8-speed tiptronic transmissions. The 2016 S5 will likely sport the new 3.0-litre TFSI turbocharged V6 engine that makes 354 PS and 500 Nm of torque in the 2016 S4. This engine will be paired to the 8-speed tiptronic transmisssion.

The 2016 Audi A5 will feature all the advanced features available on the 2016 Audi A4, like Matrix LED headlamps, dynamic turn signals, Audi virtual cockpit with 12.3-inch LCD display, Bang & Olufsen Sound System with 3D sound and MMI infotainment systems based on the second generation modular infotainment platform with MMI touch, new, natural voice-control system and Audi smartphone interface.
