2-door cabriolet and 5-door liftback versions next for the second-gen Audi A5 range.
Audi introduced the second generation Audi A5 in 2-door Coupe version earlier this month. The 2016 Audi A5 Coupe will be followed by its 2-door cabriolet version - the 2016 Audi A5 Cabriolet, and its 5-door liftback version - the 2016 Audi A5 Sportback. Speculating based on Audi's current strategy, both these models should debut along with their respective S performance variants.
Two sets of speculative renderings by Theophilus Chin show how the exterior of the 2016 Audi A5 Cabriolet and 2016 Audi S5 Sportback may look like. The near-production renderings seem to have been derived from the 2016 Audi A5 Coupe and 2016 Audi S4 saloon. All A5/S5 models are expected to share the familiar signature features like the large singleframe grille, Matrix LED headlights, dynamic turn signals, Audi virtual cockpit, MMI infotainment system with MMI touch and so on.
The 2016 Audi A5 Cabriolet will likely be powered by the same engines from the coupe version it's based on. The latter, set to go on sale in Autumn (September-November), will be available with two TFSI petrol and three TDI diesel engines with outputs ranging from 140 kW (190 hp) and 210 kW (286 hp). Transmission choices should include 6-speed manual, 7-speed S tronic and 8-speed tiptronic.
The 2016 Audi S5 Sportback should be propelled by the 3.0-litre TFSI turbocharged V6 petrol engine that churns out 260 kW (354 hp) and 500 Nm of torque in the Audi S5 Coupe. Sending power to all four wheels, should be the 8-speed tiptronic transmission working in conjunction with the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.
