World premieres at next month's Detroit Auto Show.

The 2016 Mercedes E Class will make its debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show that opens on January 11, 2016. The body cladding of the test mules appear to be getting lesser as the debut approaches. The latest spy video recorded by walkoART shows the E Class with minimal camouflage.

The clip shows the exterior design of the luxury sedan almost completely, with only the LED headlights, twin-slat grille, air intakes, boot and rear bumper covered up. Based on the MRA platform the 2016 E Class is expected to be 55 mm longer than the outgoing version, which should translate into class-leading interior space.

The interior has been revealed by the company, featuring wooden trim and a center console that appears similar to the C Class, while a two display layout mirroring that of the bigger S Class has been utilized. One is for the driver instrument panel with the other one dedicated to infotainment functions.

It has been widely reported that the E Class will be one of the most sophisticated and technologically-advanced cars in its segment when launched. It will come with newer versions of many active safety systems such as Evasive Steering Assist, Active Brake Assist, belt bag (airbags in seat belt), Attention Assist and PRE-SAFE Plus. Apart from these, it will also have a Remote Parking Pilot feature that will allow the car to park itself and a “Car-to-X” communication system that enables the car to interact with objects supporting this technology.

Base variants of the 2016 Mercedes E Class will be powered by a choice of current four cylinder petrol and new four cylinder diesel engines that have been codenamed ‘OM654’. Top-end variants will probably get a 3.0-liter inline six unit while the AMG performance flagship will be driven by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8.

After its debut in January 2016, the new E Class will be seen in European markets by middle of the year. The Indian launch will be staged likely towards the end of the year.
