The motorcycles will also be exported to Europe.

KTM CEO’s Stefan Pierer has big plans for the Indian market. The chief executive’s company, Pierer Industrie AG, acquired the Husqvarna brand from BMW back in January 2013. Post that, Mr. Pierer has hinted that the Husqvarna brand could be launched in India through CKD or CBU.

The Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen and Vitpilen could be powered by the KTM-sourced 372 cc engine.

In his latest interview with Cycle News, Mr. Pierer not only confirms the Husqvarna models, but also states that they will be manufactured in India. The models planned for India are the Husqvarna Vitpilen and Svartpilen, which were showcased as concepts at the EICMA show in Milan last November.

Mr. Pierer said that the concepts were very close to the production model, and that production will start towards the end of 2016 for a 2017 market launch. These bikes are based on the Duke rolling chassis, the official said.

Since they’re based on the Duke rolling chassis, KTM would leverage exports of these motorcycles as well. For Husqvarna models up to 390 cc, the chassis will be exported from India to Mattighofen, Austria, where KTM will assemble the final components.

Power for these motorcycles is likely to come from the KTM-sourced 372.3 cc single-cylinder engine which powers the Duke 390 and RC390.
