Previews design of Audi's future Avants (estate)
Audi is also showcasing a new variant of the Prologue concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This time, the concept follows the 'Avant' configuration, previewing the styling of future estates from Audi. It's also the first time that Audi has fitted two extra doors to the Prologue concept, first revealed as a 2-door coupe at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The front fascia of the Prologue Avant concept remains identical to the 2-door coupe. It features the singleframe grille and wedge-like headlights powered by a matrix laser technology. Audi has updated the design to includes more LED DRLs that accentuate the lower air intakes.
Accommodating two extra doors and a sizable boot, the Audi Prologue Avant measures at a length of 5.11 metres, a wheelbase of 3.04 metres, a width of 1.97 metres and a height of 1.4 metres; making it a little larger than the two-door coupé concept. The Prologue sits on large 5-spoke 22-inch wheels carrying size 285/30 tyres.
The rear of the concept is designed around the estate configuration. It still features the rear lamp strip that runs across the full width of the car and combines the LED taillamps, as well as the sloping rear section, which smoothly combines with the flowing roof. The lower fascia houses two large trapezoidal exhaust pipes, which are separated as far apart to highlight the width.
Inside, the Audi Prologue Avant has a dashboard identical to the 2-door coupe concept. This time, however, it is finished in a darker shade and trimmed with new materials. Equipment wise, it previews an innovative OLED touchscreen display merged with the center tunnel and the dashboard panels at the passenger side.
At the rear cabin, thanks to the increased dimensions, rear passengers can enjoy individual seats with a spacious ambiance. Multimedia options for rear passengers include detachable OLED displays for on-demand information and entertainment.
Under the hood, the Prologue Avant is powered by an hybrid powertrain similar to the upcoming Q7 e-tron quattro - a combination of a 353 hp 3.0 TDI engine and an 102 hp powerful electric motor. Total output is rated at 455 hp, while peak torque is at 750 Nm. An 8-speed tiptronic is integrated to the hybrid powertrain, which directs engine power to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive.
The concept will do 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds, before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h. The lithium-ion battery pack in the rear stores 14.1 kWh of energy, enabling it to cruise for 54 kms in pure electric drive mode.
