Spied – Mahindra Verito Electric caught on test

Anjan Ravi, I'm a true-blooded petrolhead. Hope you enjoy our news stories, launch coverages, motorshow coverages and test drive reports.

The Mahindra Verito Electric was caught testing in the city of Bangalore by MotorBeam reader Manuel Jose. The test mule has its ‘Mahindra’ logo covered, though the important ‘Automatic’ and ‘Electric’ badges are left uncovered for all to see.

Mahindra had already showcased the Verito EV concept at the 2012 Auto Expo. In June last year, at the launch of the Verito Vibe (a sub-4 meter derivative based on the Verito), Mr. Pawan Goenka, president of Mahindra’s automotive sector, said that there will be another launch based on the Verito platform this year. We have good reason to believe that Mr. Goenka was referring to this Verito EV, which is being primed for a launch, possibly at the Auto Expo next week.

The Verito EV shown at the 2012 Auto Expo featured a 72V Lithium-ion battery pack which could be charged within 6 hours. A 29 kW AC motor transmitted power through a single-speed transmission. Mahindra claimed that the Verito EV would achieve a top-speed of 86 km/h, while the driving range on a full charge would last 100 km. The show car came with four driving modes: reverse, forward, neutral and boost.

It remains to be seen how well Mahindra can price the Verito EV, given that even the smaller e2o is priced from INR 6.45 lakhs ex-Showroom, New Delhi.
