Team BHP fan Prabhanjan Tattar has shared some scoop shots of the 2014 Hyundai i10 today. If you haven't been keeping up with news, we reported yesterday that start of production of this i10 has been advanced by three months to September 2013 at the Turkish plant which will cater to the European markets.
Prabhanjan snapped these images of the new i10 wearing interesting alloy wheels on the NH4, about 50km away from Chennai. This test mule comes from Hyundai's Chennai plant where its predecessor is manufactured for the entire world, including Europe. It was launched in India in October 2007, and a facelift arrived roughly three years later.
The new i10 is speculated to launch in India during Diwali. International automotive websites have reported that the new i10 will make its global premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. The first examples of the car would have come off the production line in Turkey around the same time.
The new i10 is very special as it would be the smallest Hyundai with a diesel engine. Hyundai will strap this car with a three-cylinder 1.1L diesel engine. This engine will work in tandem with the 1.2-liter Kappa petrol engine used on the current model.
Hyundai has shown two variations of this Kappa engine in the recent past - Kappa 1.0 TCI engine (turbo intercooled, MPFI throttle body injection), Kappa 1.2 T-GDI engine (gasoline direct injection, turbocharged) which could feature on the i10 in the future. These engines have the mettle to motor cars in the B+ and C Segment as well. The application plan is however unclear at the moment.
Moving to the interior, the new i10 will have height-adjustable front seats and more legroom for rear passengers. The crash safety ratings are expected to improve a few notches on the incoming model.
