The 2014 Audi A8 facelift began testing in India even before its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, nearly two months ago. Indian Autos Blog readers were accustomed to seeing a camouflaged A8 with its Matrix LED headlights roam around the streets of Mumbai.
Most recently, a completely uncamouflaged 2014 A8 was spotted testing in Mumbai by ZigWheels. As you can see from these images, this A8 appears more like a showroom car than a test mule, giving us the impression that Audi India could launch the car very soon.
The new A8 can be easily identified thanks to its trademark Matrix LED headlights, which would trickle down to other Audis. Further design changes come in the form of revised bumpers and grille, reprofiled taillights, and the addition of chrome strips on the bootlid and the rear bumper.
Though the refreshed A8 measures the same as the pre-facelifted model, the boot volume has increased by 10 liters. The interiors of the 2014 A8 are unchanged save for a new three-spoke steering wheel and a smarter night vision camera (which now detects small animals as well).
Audi India currently sells the A8 with four engine options - 3.0L TDI, 4.2L TDI, 4.2L FSI and a 6.3L W12, and we think the refreshed A8 will continue to be sold with the same engines. A launch can be expected by the end of this year, or early next year. At about the same time, India will also receive the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S Class.
