Our regular readers might already know that China is going to get a longer version of the Yeti.

We were able to prove this point using spyshots a few weeks ago. Here are two more photographs of the longer Yeti in action, being tested on the roads of China, without any camouflage.

Skoda, which initially was looking out to sell them as a CBU, decided later to manufacture them locally. Production begins in the second half of next year at the Shanghai-Volkswagen JV facility.

The Chinese Yeti is 60mm longer, with a wheelbase of 2,683mm. This provides more room to the rear passengers, a compulsory feature for the Chinese customers.

Power will be delivered by 1.4TSI and 1.8TSI engines mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The longer Yeti will be available in 4X2 and 4X4 versions. No changes have been made to the interior, to our eyes the body work is same as the global version.

There won’t be any diesel variants on the Yeti long wheelbase. The Chinese government unlike ours, doesn’t favor that fuel option.

Pricing for the China-made Skoda Yeti long wheelbase is said to start from 1,40,000 yuan (roughly Rs. 11.8 lacs).
