Yamaha's new scooter, the Cygnus Alpha, has been spotted prior to its launch at the Auto Expo. The Cygnus Alpha is expected to compete against the likes of the Suzuki Swish, Suzuki Access, Piaggio Vespa and Honda's new offering which will also be launched at the 2014 Auto Expo.
Our friends at Motorbeam have spotted the Cygnus Alpha with virtually no masking. Styling cues reflect a straight forward scooter, with its headlamps up on the handlebar - as compared to the headlamps integrated into the body up front like in the Yamaha Ray. Chunky seats resemble that of the Honda Activa. Similarities with the Activa extend to the rear grab handle, which is made of an aluminium alloy.
The Cygnus Alpha is based on the same platform as the Yamaha Ray scooter. We don't think the platform has been extended to accommodate the bulkier engine as the Cygnus Alpha gets fresh body side panels to cover the drivetrain.
Up front, the Cygnus Alpha gets telescopic suspension but misses out on disc brakes. It looks to be a straight-shooter, with none of the quirks that the Indian scooter scene has received off late, like exterior fuel filling.
Look forward to our full coverage on the Yamaha Cygnus Alpha from the upcoming Auto Expo 2014.
