Total output increases by 15 percent.
Volkswagen India have announced that they will start a third shift of production at its plant in Chakan Pune, which is expected to increase the total output by 15 percent. The company has hired around 800 new employees in preparation of the output bump.
Speaking on the production increase, Volkswagen India President Andreas Lauermann said:
In 2016, we are expecting growth in our domestic as well as export volumes. With the new Ameo, a car that has been specially developed for India, we are expecting a higher demand from the domestic Indian market while we look at supplying more cars to our export markets too.
The company has hired around 800 new employees in preparation of the output bump. So far, VW India has invested around 800 million Euro (INR 6,000 crore ) at the Chakan plant and employs over 4,000 people.

The Ameo is VW’s first ever sub-4m sedan developed to tap into the growing demand for compact sedans. It is based on the PQ25 platform that underpins the VW Polo hatchback and Vento sedan. It is expected to launch in June 2016, and rivals products like the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Ford Figo Aspire.
