Next gen VW Polo due in June 2017 – Report

2017 VW Polo will sit on the MQB A0 platform.

Wards Auto reports that the sixth generation VW Polo will arrive in the global market in June 2017. The European specification 2017 VW Polo will be manufactured at the company’s Landaben plant in Spain, which currently only produces the VW Polo.

At the moment, details on its exterior design are scarce, although it could borrow cues from VW’s latest concepts.

The 2017 VW Polo will ditch the PQ25 platform for a new MQB A0 platform, which is understood to be smallest version of the MQB toolkit. At the moment, details on its exterior design are scarce, although it is expected to borrow cues from VW’s latest concepts such as the VW Sport Coupe concept and VW T-Cross Breeze.

Powering the VW Polo Mk6 will be three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with TSI and TDI technologies, respectively. Higher variants will be offered with a DSG automatic gearbox, while a manual transmission is likely to be standard in base variants. The next gen Polo could also receive e-Polo (EV) and Polo PHEV (hybrid) variants.

For the Indian market, VW India will have to invest in localizing the MQB platform for next generation models such as the Polo, Vento, Skoda Rapid and a future compact SUV. Ex-VW development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser had confirmed that VW India will begin manufacturing MQB-based cars by the end of this decade.
