Will launch in the second half of 2016.
On May 12th, Volvo launched the XC90 in two variants, Momentum Luxury and Inscription Luxury, which are powered by a 225 hp 2.0-liter D5 engine. In 2016, Volvo will add two top-of-the-line variants and the option of an R-Design kit to the Indian-spec XC90 range.
Speaking to IAB at the launch of the XC90, Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director of Volvo Auto India, has confirmed that Volvo will introduce the XC90 Excellence, T8 Hybrid as well as an optional R-Design kit in the second half of 2016.
Ernberg said -
Next year we'll introduce the (XC90) R-Design, 4-seater Excellence and perhaps also the twin engine T8 Hybrid in the second half. We'll have many variants of the XC90 and, I think, India being more and more interested in SUVs, we can offer a lot with this car.
Volvo had unveiled the XC90 Excellence at the Auto Shanghai 2015, the most luxurious model ever made by the Swedish company. The main highlight is the individual 2+2 seating layout, which feature massage, ventilation and increased legroom.
Other exclusive equipment include a retractable control touchscreen, folding tables, a refrigerator with bottle and glass holders, a heating/cooling cup holder and handmade crystal glasses from Swedish glass design company, Orrefors, footrests, ambient lighting, a luggage compartment dividing screen, additional sound insulation in the cabin and Pirelli Noise Canceling System tyres (PNCS), and a ‘specially-augmented’ 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system
The T8 Twin Engine hybrid has a 2.0-liter supercharged 4-cylinder engine and electric motor that produce 400 hp and 640 Nm of torque. Power is sourced from a a high-voltage (270 V - 400 V) battery placed in the central section of the car. It can be recharged via a two-step brake energy recovery system or through a power socket.
The XC90 T8 is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Volvo claims that it is the “cleanest” crossover in the market, as it returns an emissions figure of 59 grams of CO2 per km, and an average fuel efficiency figure of 2.5l/100km (40 km/l European test cycle).
