Though the Volvo stall at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show hosts the Concept Estate, the brand’s production models tried to attract eyeballs with special editions based on the Ocean Race series.
The Geneva show is also playing host to the world premiere for Drive-E powered Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country models, which are shown as the Ocean Race special editions. These models can now be ordered with a 245 hp petrol turbo T5 engine or a 190 hp turbo diesel D4 engine. CO2 emission for the diesel engine is down to a class-leading 85 g/km says Volvo, and Drive-E engines can be ordered or any Volvo model (except the XC90) from May 2014.
The Ocean Race Special Edition is available on the V40, V40 Cross Country, V60 and XC60, we are only focussing on the Cross Country and XC60 as these cars are available in India.
Four color choices are available on these cars: Ocean Blue II, Bright Silver, Black Sapphire and Crystal White. While the V40 Cross Country comes with seven-spoke ‘Portunus’ 17-inch wheels, the XC60 gets the same design on 18-inch rims. The Volvo Ocean Race badge is displayed on the tread plates and front fenders as well as in the start-up sequence on the Infotainment screen.
Inside, these cars are available with black or brown leather upholstery with contrast orange stitching and the Ocean Race logo in orange. The stitching is extended to the door panels and floor mats as well. Towards the rear, the load cover on these cars feature the map and logo of the Ocean Race.
Production of the Volvo Ocean Race Edition cars will start this month, and the company expects to sell over 16,000 units during 2014 and 2015.
