Design inline with leaked scale models.
Volvo Cars has finally dropped two teasers of the Volvo S80's successor, which will be called the Volvo S90. It is the second vehicle to feature Volvo's latest styling, first being the 2015 Volvo XC90.
The first teaser reveals the upper section of the side profile, which showcases the chrome window bezel, shoulder line, the LED headlamps with Thor Hammer DRLs, and LED taillights. The design is inline with that of the leaked 1:43 scale models of the Volvo S90. It's an evolutionary step up from the Volvo S80, and is expected to mirror the premium quotient exuded by the 2015 XC90.
The second teaser gives a closer look at the taillamp design, which features LED lighting. The design is inspired by the Volvo Concept Coupe, and it flanks the Volvo nameplate. The bootlid appears to be heavily styled, sporting sculpted features.
The Volvo S90 will be the second new product to ride on the modular SPA platform. It will borrow the engine lineup from the XC90, which includes a series of 2.0-liter Drive-E engine with outputs between 190 hp to 400 hp (Twin Engine hybrid). The 8-speed Aisin automatic gearbox is likely to serve as the only transmission option, while an AWD system could be an optional extra.
