By the end of 2017, buyers will be able to choose from a whole range of new SUVs as well as facelifts of existing models. From affordable compact SUVs to luxury SUVs, there is something for every budget this festive season.

Today IAB brings you a list of all the upcoming SUVs in India 2017 along with the tentative launch date, price, specifications and more.

Jeep Compass

First amongst upcoming SUVs in India 2017 is the Jeep Compass. FCA is pinning hopes of its revival squarely on the upcoming SUV that has all the attributes to hit the sweet spot in the premium SUV market. Production of Jeep Compass has been underway since June 1, 2017 at FCA’s facility in Ranjangaon. The launch of the Jeep Compass is expected in the following weeks. Jeep will offer the Compass with a choice of 1.4 L FIRE petrol and 2.0 L Multijet II diesel engines. Jeep’s SelecTerrain all-wheel drive system will also be on offer on the top-spec variant.

Thanks to heavy localization Jeep Compass price will be competitive starting at around Rs 18 lakh. FCA India formally started accepting bookings for the Compass on June 19.

Tata Motors' highly anticipated Maruti Vitara Brezza rival Nexon will finally go on sale in October 2017 as confirmed by Tata Motors Managing Director Guenter Butschek. Tata says the main area of focus has been styling, which is quite evident from the near-production model that was on display at the 2016 Auto Expo and the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Engine options will include a choice of 1.2 L Turbo Petrol and 1.5 L Turbo diesel. There will also be 5-speed F-Tronic AMT equipped variants on offer.

The styling of the Nexon is based on Tata Motors’ IMPACT design language. Nexon features some unique touches such as the use of ‘Ceramic’ highlights and a dash-top Touchscreen.

2017 Ford EcoSport Facelift

2017 Ford EcoSport (facelift)

Another compact SUV on our list of upcoming SUVs in India 2017 is the Ford EcoSport facelift. The updated EcoSport was unveiled in the USA in November 2017. It features cosmetic revisions to the bumpers, grille, and headlamps. The cabin is overhauled with a new dashboard design along with a touchscreen unit for Ford’s SYNC AppLink software. Expect current engine options to remain in the MY2017.

The new EcoSport will also be sold in the USA and will be shipped from Ford's Chennai factory. New Ford EcoSport launch is expected in the festive season.

Renault Captur/Renault Kaptur

In the last quarter of 2017, Renault will bring the Captur SUV (known as Renault Kaptur in Russia) to India. This upcoming SUV in India will sit above the Duster in the Rs 12-16 lakh price range. It is based on the same B0 platform as the Duster, unlike the Euro-spec Captur that is based on Renault-Nissan Alliance B platform. Like the Duster, it has seating capacity for five.

Engine options are likely to be the same 1.5 L Petrol and 1.5 L Diesel units that power the Duster. With the Captur, Renault will be aiming to seek the attention of customers looking for premium looks and interior in the size class of the Duster.

2017 Mahindra Scorpio Facelift

Mahindra is on a product offensive to protect its market share, which came down to 6.5% in April 2017. Among the upcoming Mahindra SUVs in India 2017 is the facelift of the Scorpio. Having sold over 4.5 lakh units since its launch in 2002, the Scorpio knows all the survival skills in Indian market. In the next round of updates, it will get minor look changes and an updated 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine making 140 HP.

Launch of the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio will take place before the end of 2017 as confirmed by Mr Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive Sector). Mahindra discontinued automatic variants of the Scorpio in June 2017 but will likely relaunch it with the modern 6-speed Aisin unit in the facelift.

2017 Mahindra XUV500 Facelift

The second Mahindra product on our list of upcoming SUVs in India is the XUV500 facelift. Much like the Scorpio, it will see changes to the exterior, interior and underneath the body. The 2.2 L mHawk diesel powering the XUV500 will make 170 HP, 30 HP more than it does in its current state, in the new model. Mr Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive Sector) has confirmed that the launch of the 2017 XUV500 facelift will take place before the end of 2017. The facelift will help Mahindra keep new rivals Tata Hexa, and the upcoming Jeep Compass at bay.

Maruti S-Cross Facelift

2017 Suzuki S-Cross (facelift) front three quarters

Suzuki unveiled a facelifted version of the S-Cross in July 2016 for international markets. This 2017 model year S-Cross will come to India by the festive season. It features heavy updates to the nose with more distinctive and upright front end styling. At the rear, it gets new LED rear combination lamps. The cabin will feature minimal changes in the form of new upholstery and an updated Smartplay AVN unit.

Launched in 2015, the S-Cross did not get off to a flying start. Following a generous price cut in January 2016 and soft changes to the styling, sales have recovered with the car averaging around 2,000 units monthly. To unlock new volumes, Maruti Suzuki could lower the entry price point and attract new customers with the introduction of a 1.5-litre petrol engine option and an automatic transmission.

Range Rover Velar

The Range Rover Velar will arrive in showrooms in November 2017, as confirmed by Mr. Rohit Suri, President & MD of JLR India, slotting between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport. It features full Matrix-Laser LED headlights with signature daytime running lights, flush deployable door handles, 22-inch wheels, LED tail lights, digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch HD display, 20-way adjustable driver/passenger memory seats with massage and heating/cooling functions, Touch Pro Duo infotainment system which integrates two 10-inch HD touchscreens and 1,600-watt, 23-speaker Meridian Signature Sound audio system. JLR dealerships in India are already unofficially accepting bookings for the Velar.

Mahindra KUV100 Facelift

In all, Mahindra will update three existing models including the KUV100 as confirmed by Mr Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive Sector).

The ‘mini-SUV’ has been unable to register the kind of sales Mahindra was expecting before its launch in January 2016. Over the last three months, sales are in a downward trend falling to under 2,000 units in May 2017. As part of the update, the KUV100 will receive changes to its styling, bringing updates to the front and rear. Current engine options are likely to remain. However, the oft-criticized 1.2 L Petrol could be tuned for better performance. With most of rivals offering a touchscreen unit, Mahindra might consider adding it to the list of the refresh.

Audi Q5

The Q5 is currently the oldest SUV in Audi’s lineup in India on sale since June 2009. However, all that is set to change with the launch of the new 2017 Audi Q5.

Like new Audi products, the Q5 gets a single piece hexagonal grille and Matrix full LED headlamps with dynamic turn indicators. The new car is around 90 kg lighter and is more spacious at the back. Feature additions include Audi’s Virtual Cockpit and head-up display along with updates to the MMI interface. Customers will be able to opt for a new 19 speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system that uses innovative 3D surround sound. The car will be assembled at Audi’s facility in Aurangabad.
