Mahindra planning model refreshes for UV sales growth.

Mr Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D and Global Product Development, Mahindra (Automotive Sector), has announced that the second generation Mahindra Scorpio currently on sale will receive its first major facelift later this year.

Mahindra has started road testing the facelifted Mahindra Scorpio, as revealed by spyshots from late last month. The test mule was spotted with its front and rear fascias covered, suggesting changes to the headlamps, front grille, bumpers, fog lamps and tail lamps. It wouldn't be stretching too far to expect minor changes to the dimensions as well. The current model measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width and 1,930 mm/1,995 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm.

Along with the exterior changes, the Mahindra Scorpio should receive a refreshed interior. Changes inside the cabin may include new colour theme, upholstery and trim, as well as the latest touchscreen infotainment system Mahindra has to offer, with features such as Android Auto, EcoSense and Connected Apps sourced from the 2017 Mahindra XUV500.

In addition to the aesthetic and equipment changes, the Mahindra Scorpio will reportedly get an important mechanical change with the facelift. The 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine is expected to output 20 hp more than the outgoing Scorpio, producing 140 hp. Any changes for the 1.99-litre mHawk and 2.5-litre m2DICR four-cylinder diesel engines, if planned, are unknown. It is also reported to receive a 6-speed manual gearbox (replaces the 5-speed unit), while its unclear if the 6-speed Aisin AT gearbox will make the cut.
