A report by Autocar India has revealed that HCIL is developing a new car to compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza from 2021.
Honda first hinted at its intention to utilize the same platform as the 2018 Honda Amaze for future SUVs back in February 2018. The latest report confirms that the compact SUV will indeed be based on it. Although Honda WR-V, the company's crossover offering in the sub-4 m space, is doing fairly well with 50,000 unit sales in the first year, the upcoming SUV will replace the Jazz-based crossover.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza rival will sport an upright silhouette adds the report. Cabin space will be given priority.
A BSVI compliant 1.5 L diesel engine is being prepared for the next generation Honda City and it is likely to power the upcoming SUV. A diesel CVT variant, which will be offered to Amaze buyers and possibly next-gen Honda City buyers as well, could be strapped to Honda's Vitara Brezza rival.

The new sub-4 m SUV will be priced more competitively than the WR-V thanks to its relatively more cost-effective underpinnings. Aside from the Vitara Brezza, the upcoming Honda compact SUV will rival the Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon and the yet to be launched SsangYong Tivoli based S201 from Mahindra.
