General Motors cars have always been one of the poor sellers in India from the day of its launch. GM India on Friday Reported 25 per cent increase in July sales at 5,706 units against 4,570 units during the same month last year. The company further added that the july 2008 sales comprised 3,570 units of the Chevrolet Spark, 921 units of the Chevrolet Tavera, 501 units of the Chevrolet Aveo, 344 units of the Chevrolet Optra, and 370 units of the Chevrolet Captiva.
The company said the heave in the sales figures is mainly dominated by the little Chevrolet Spark which is considered to be a value for money small car with a lot of special and attractive packages offered by the General motors.
GM India Vice-President P Balendran said "Despite a sluggish market, our positive monthly sales figure is a clear indication of the success of our carlines. Chevrolet Spark has made serious inroads in the Indian small car segment”.
He further added that the increasing demand brand of vehicles, the company is on a row to expand its sales and service network by 190 units before this year end.
