Road testing of the Tata Tiago JTP has commenced, spy shots had revealed last month. IAB reader Srivatsan recently spotted a Tata Tiago JTP test mule on the streets of Coimbatore. The car was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in February.
JTP is Tata Motors’ branding for its performance-oriented models co-developed with Jayem Auto. The Tata Tiago JTP is one of the first products from the JTP range. It has a number of distinguishing features to set itself apart from the regular Tata Tiago.
Modified front bumper, smoked projector headlamps, gloss black honeycomb front grille with gloss black frame and red-coloured JTP logo, hood vent, red ORVM caps, 15-inch six-double spoke alloy wheels wrapped in 185/60 R15 tyres, side skirts, gloss black roof, faux rear diffuser, gloss black rear spoiler, red JTP logo on the tailgate and twin-pipe exhaust pipe.
The Tata Tiago JTP measures 3,746 mm in length, 1,647 mm in width and 1,502 mm in height. Its length and width are the same, but its height is 33 mm lower. While the regular Tata Tiago offers 165 mm (with 13-inch wheels)/170 mm (with 14-inch wheels) of ground clearance, the Tiago JTP offers 161 mm of ground clearance.
The JTP variant sports a 1.2-litre petrol engine with performance-oriented intake and exhaust systems. Its ‘JTP’ turbocharged three-cylinder mill produces 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 2,000-4,000 rpm. A 5-speed manual transmission with optimised gear ratios routes power to the wheels.
