A Suzuki Vitara test mule was spied in India early last month. Recently, the same test mule was spotted in the country again, courtesy Team-BHP.
The fourth generation Suzuki Vitara was introduced in 2014 and a few units of it were allegedly spotted inside Maruti Suzuki’s facility in 2015. However, this model still hasn’t made it to the Indian market. No camouflage on the test mule suggests that the SUV isn’t undergoing road test for a potential market launch. Maruti Suzuki has previously brought other overseas models, including JDM-only cars, for reasons other than evaluating them for our market. One of the possible reasons is component testing.
What makes us think even strongly that this particular Suzuki Vitara is not India-bound is that it’s due for a mid-cycle refresh. Suzuki has already started testing the facelifted Suzuki Vitara internationally and is expected to release it later this year. The new model will likely feature revised bumpers, tweaked tail lamps, updated infotainment system with added Android Auto support and new active safety technologies.

Last year, a report suggested that a Maruti C-SUV underpinned by Suzuki’s fifth generation C platform will go into production in 2020. Recent reports have said that this model’s launch will take place earlier, in 2019.
