While the Honda Activa’s domination in the scooter segment of the Indian two-wheeler market is a lightyear away from a threat, there has been a change in the second spot. Suzuki Motorcycles India’s best selling 125 cc product, the Access 125 clocked the second highest monthly sales (scooters) in the country. The Suzuki Access 125 replaced the TVS Jupiter as the second best-selling scooter in the Indian market in January 2019.

Suzuki sold a total of 54,524 units of the Access 125 last month. In comparison, the TVS Jupiter managed to clock 51,300 unit sales during the same period. The year-on-year sales of the Suzuki Access saw a 44 per cent rise while the TVS Jupiter saw a 21 per cent fall in the numbers for January. The country’s highest selling scooter, the Honda Activa reported 13 per cent fall in the year-on-year figures, clocking 2,13,302 unit sales in January 2019 as against 2,43,826 units in the corresponding month last year.
The Access is available in two options – Access 125 and Access 125 SE or Special Edition. The difference between the two variants is limited to the colour options. The standard Suzuki Access 125 comes in six colour options – Pearl Suzuki Deep Blue No.2, Candy Sonoma Red, Metallic Sonic Silver, Glass Sparkle Black, Pearl Mirage White and Metallic Fabrion Gray. The Special Edition can be purchased from three paint options - Metallic Sonic Silver, Metallic Matte Black, and Pearl Mirage White. The Special Edition Access 125 comes with a leatherette seat cover that is aimed to add more style to the scooter.
Another reason for the change in ranking could be the preferences for the 125 cc scooters. As seen in the table below, apart from the Suzuki Access 125, the Hero Destini 125 and the TVS Ntorq 125 clocked healthy sales and stood at the fifth and sixth spot in the list of top 10 selling scooters last month.
