The Ssangyong compact SUV was caught on test in China recently. The EcoSport rival from Ssangyong is codenamed X100, and will be unveiled in early 2015.
The crossover will take design inspiration from the Ssangyong XLV Concept shown at this year's Geneva Motor Show. Ssangyong officials have said that there will be two body styles of the X100 - five- and seven-seater - and the latter will go on sale in late 2015.
While the interiors here are covered, previous spyshots have exposed the center console, control stalks and entertainment display of the X100.
Based on an all-new platform, the X100 will be an entry-level product for Ssangyong and will be positioned below the Korando C SUV. The company has remained silent on engine and gearbox options, but several reports indicate that a newly-developed 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine will be one of the engine choices on the X100.
In Europe, the X100 is expected with a starting price of 15,000 pounds (INR 15.34 lakhs) and will compete with crossovers like the Nissan Juke, Ford EcoSport, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur and Opel Mokka.
Cars like the X100 are aimed at increasing volumes considerably for the Mahindra-owned utility major, which announced earlier this year that it wanted to double sales within the next three years.
