VW India might be tight lipped about the VW Up! but the test mules are regularly being spotted by our readers. The new set of spy shots of the 5-door Up! being tested near Pune was sent in by our ardent reader Mr. Aakash Kamat.
Judging by the trade certificate number, this is the same test mule that was spotted by another IndianAutosBlog.com fan last month near Lonavala.
The clear pictures give us a detailed view of the rear of the car. Unlike the low cost test mule which was spotted in Brazil few days ago, the Indian test mule employs full black single piece hatch door. The shape of the tail lamps complement the overall shape of the car. Clear lens turn indicators and reverse lights are integrated to form a good looking 'C' shaped element.
From the pictures, the front seats appear to have integrated head restraints, and the outside door handles are not body coloured. The test mule's left side lower body (below the front door) has a dent suggesting that it probably received a bit too much from a speed breaker or a nasty Indian pot hole!
The Up! will be powered by a 1.0 litre three cylinder petrol motor in two different states of tune - 60 bhp and 75 bhp. The diesel motor could be offered in India with the Polo's 1.2 litre being the most likely candidate.
