The Royal Enfield 650 Twins have managed to garner sales of 629 units in December 2018. Royal Enfield launched the 650 Twins in India in November last year while deliveries commenced later that month.
This is almost double the growth as Royal Enfield sold 325 units of the 650 Twins in November 2018. While the sales figures seem low, it should be noted that the Royal Enfield is in the process of ramping up production after a worker strike late last year. Furthermore, Royal Enfield has sold more units of the 650 Twins than what the KTM 390 Duke, Kawasaki Ninja 300 and the TVS Apache RR 310 have managed to put together.
The motorcycles command a waiting period of around 3 months depending on the paint scheme. According to dealerships, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has received more bookings from as compared to the Continental GT 650.
While the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is more expensive at INR 2.65 lakh*, the Interceptor 650 retails at INR 2.50 lakh*. In states like Kerala and Karnataka, the ex-showroom cost of the motorcycles is kept lower to keep the on-road price under INR 3 lakh.
The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is for the purists, while the Interceptor 650 is the Jack of all trades with its easy-going riding manners. The Royal Enfield 650 Twins will be the catalysts to make the company a truly global player in the mid-capacity motorcycles segment.
According to a report dated 5 December, Royal Enfield has received more demand for the chrome and custom paint schemes, which are marginally expensive over the base models. The company expects the Royal Enfield 650 Twins to be a stepping stone for its 3.20 million loyal owners to venture into the world of powerful yet easy-going modern-classic motorcycles.

The Royal Enfield 650 Twins employ a 648cc 8-valve, parallel-twin, air-cooled engine with oil cooling that is paired with a six-speed gearbox. The motor generates 47 bhp of max power and 52 Nm of peak torque, while a slipper clutch is standard fitment. Braking performance is aided by single discs at both the ends with dual-channel ABS.
