Fiat is using the B-Wide platform to build top hat cars.
The 500L, using this same platform, will have two cousins, an SUV and a longer 500L with seven seats. The press release issued on the 500L's launch reveals that the Fiat 500L will be sold in 100 countries.
The 500L is 4.1m long and rendered here is the 7 seat version which has a considerably larger rear overhang. The dimensions of the 500L such as its width (178 cm) and height (166 cm) and perhaps even its wheelbase (261 cm) wheelbase could be carried over to the longer version. The boot space, which stands at 400 liters currently, should double up on the 7 seat version.
Fiat has a highly versatility cabin with front seats that can be adjusted in 8 ways and feature tray tables for the passengers behind. The second row folds in a 60:40 ratio and can be adjusted in 12 positions.
The 500L is powered by an 85 HP 1.3-liter MultiJet engine that can be driven through a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox. Petrol lovers in Europe can get the 500L with the new 105 HP 0.9 Turbo TwinAir and 95 HP 1.4 l 16V engine that services the Linea in India.
Other features Fiat harps on is the glazed A-Pillars that provide 30% better frontal visibility compared to rival models, 333 body color combinations including 3 roof shades, a sun roof that covers 1.5 sq.m of the roof area and a portable Lavazza coffee machine. These should stick on to the 500XL as well.
