Renault India has uploaded an image on its social media channel, teasing the forthcoming entry-level small car which could be called the Renault Kayou (codename - Renault XBA). The teaser sketch of the hatchback seen in this image likely previews the XBA, though Renault India have not confirmed this detail.
There are a few cues on the sketch which suggest it to be the Kayou/XBA. The design of the front fascia for example fits the profile of prototypes spotted on test. Then comes the protruding low-cost wing mirrors, which were seen on all test mules of the Kayou.
The sketch shows a hatchback with a butch stance, and reports have suggested that the Kayou will get crossover-inspired styling cues.
The Renault Kayou will be revealed in Chennai on May 20, 2015, marking its world premiere in the process. However, its market launch in India will be conducted only in the second half of this year.
Power for the Kayou will come from a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine which will reportedly be paired to manual and automated manual transmissions. However, a diesel version will not be available.
Underpinned by the CMF-A platform, the Kayou is announced to be priced under INR 4 lakhs. It will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Chennai.
