Announced to offer best-in-class fuel efficiency.
Indian Autos Blog reader, Mr. Ajay, snapped these images of two units of the Renault Kwid undergoing testing on the crowded Chennai streets. The Kwid, which will be Renault India's entry-level offering, is expected to launch around the festive season period this year (October-November).
Based on the modern CMF-A platform, the Kwid will be initially launched with a 0.8-liter three-cylinder petrol engine, which is expected to produce around 57 bhp. This engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual, and even an automated manual transmission (AMT), and is announced to offer best-in-class fuel efficiency.
Renault has ruled out a diesel variant on the Kwid, however, has not ruled out plans to launch a more powerful petrol variant with possibly a 1.0-liter engine based on the same engine block as the 0.8-liter unit. Gerard Detourbet, Alliance Global Vice President, Alliance A-Segment Development Unit, described this all-new engine as being very "simple", without any advanced technologies.
Some of the noteworthy features on the Kwid include a 7-inch touchscreen Media NAV system, an optional driver airbag, a digital instrument cluster, front power windows, foglights, full wheel covers and side body cladding.

Based on the same platform as the Kwid, Nissan will be driving in their third Datsun model, codenamed the Datsun I2, towards the end of this financial year.
