Will be the first Suzuki-Proton model.
It was reported in January that the Suzuki Ertiga will be sold as the Proton Ertiga in Malaysia, with sales commencing in Q2 2016. Now, as per a new report from Paultan, the Proton Ertiga will be launched as the first Proton-Suzuki model in Malaysia in October this year. The development was confirmed by Proton CEO Datuk Ahmad Fuaad Kenali at the 2016 Proton Perdana's launch yesterday.
According to the aforementioned previous report, Proton will source the Suzuki Ertiga in CKD (Completely Knocked-Down) form to Malaysia from the Cikarang Plant in Indonesia which the Japanese automaker operates with Indomobil. Production of these CKD units was said to commence in May. 1,500 units are planned to be shipped monthly, totaling to 18,000 units annually.
