Regular Indian Autos Blog readers know that GM is testing the three door Opel Corsa in Bengaluru as a part of its global testing program.
The hatchback has been caught testing once again in Bengaluru by our ardent reader Vinal. GM India has a technical centre in Bengaluru which can contribute to the automaker's global product development projects. This explains the presence of the current gen Corsa hatchback here.
The test mule has the "ecoFLEX" badge on the right side of the hatch door (visible clearly in our previous spyshots) suggesting that it is powered by a 1.0 litre petrol, a 1.4 litre petrol or the popular 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel. The 1.3 litre diesel engine was jointly developed by GM and Fiat back in the 2000's.
The Opel Corsa is probably testing a component that could have been designed and developed here. It's to be noted that the Bengaluru tech centre has worked extensively in calibrating the 1.3 litre diesel engine for the Sail twins and Enjoy. The 1.0 litre three cylinder diesel engine (basically a 1.3 MultiJet with one cylinder deleted) that powers the Beat is also a product of this centre. Besides, the technical center also helped with putting the Volt's battery pack into production.
Rest assured, GM India has no plans whatsoever to bring back the Opel brand to India.
