Could offer better interior space.
According to Funtasticko, Daihatsu and Toyota have commenced work on the next generation Daihatsu Terios and Toyota Rush, which are expected to launch in Indonesia next year. The Terios and Rush are fundamentally the same vehicle with unique fascia designs.
Codenamed D14N, reports suggest that the next generation Daihatsu Terios will draw inspiration from the Daihatsu FT Concept unveiled at GIIAS 2015. It has a more contemporary design, featuring a large chrome grille flanked by sweptback LED headlamps, round foglamps, long hexagonal radiator grille, silver bumper garnish, and black plastic body cladding, which improves the rugged appeal of the SUV.
The FT Concept measured 4,350 mm long, 1,750 mm wide, 1,690 mm high and had a wheelbase of 2,685 mm. For reference, the current Terios measures 4,385 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, 1,695 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,685 mm. Like the current Terios, the next gen will be available with a 7 seat option, which could offer more space for third row occupants. For the FT Concept, Daihatsu claimed that the it has a "wide interior space that can comfortably accommodate seven passengers".
There's no word on the engine lineup, although the FT Concept was touted to pack a 1.5L 4-cyl petrol engine. The current Terios is only available with a 1.5L four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 109 PS (107.46 bhp) at 6,000 rpm and 14.4 kg-m (141.2 Nm) at 4,400 rpm, paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

The Indian media has been speculating on the Rush coming to the country for over 7 years, and TKM has vehemently denied plans citing the petrol-only configuration and the region-specific target of the product as detterents in bringing in the Avanza and Rush. With Daihatsu now a full Toyota subsidiary for emerging markets, it would be wise to factor in the requirements including that of India in future projects where a compact SUV is a vital cog to any car company.
