The third-gen Mercedes GLS is in the works, and it was spied next to the current model by Auto Plus reader Jean-Herve recently.
The third-gen Mercedes GLS (codename: Mercedes X167), like its predecessor, features a lengthy boxy body for well-spaced three rows of seats. It rides on the new MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform that will underpin the second generation Mercedes GLE family.
Reports say that all-new Mercedes GLS will share many parts, including powertrains, with the Mercedes S-Class saloon. So, it is reasonable to expect turbocharged six- and eight-cylinder conventional engines and even a petrol-electric plug-in hybrid system. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system is also in the third generation model's plan.
The next-gen Mercedes GLS should come with the latest in features like headlamps with Digital Light technology, dual-display setup for the instrument cluster and media display with 12.3-inch screens, MBUX infotainment system with augmented reality technology and natural speech recognition activated with the code word “Hey Mercedes”, Energizing comfort control and more. Driver assistance technologies including Distronic Active Proximity Control and Active Steer Assist, would be available on the new full-size SUV.
