Gets a new hydroformed ladder-frame chassis.
A report on Autocar India states that Mahindra will launch the new Scorpio on September 25. The updated SUV is set to receive cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, helping it to put up a better fight with rivals like the Tata Safari, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.
Styling updates will come in the form of newly designed headlights with projector beams, a new grille, LED taillights and reskinned body panels. Inside, the new Scorpio is confirmed to get an all new dashboard with new instruments and a steering wheel borrowed from the more expensive XUV500. With features like automatic climate control, a touchscreen infotainment system and a new multi-information display, the Scorpio is set to become a lot more premium as well.
According to the report, changes in the Scorpio are not merely skin deep. While the engine is carried over from the current model, the gearbox will be an all-new 5-speed manual unit (internally called 320MT). Also, underpinning the new Scorpio will be a new ladder-frame chassis which uses hydroform manufacturing technique for a more lightweight yet stiffer design.
